Living Equality

What is ‘Living Equality’ and ‘Route to Fairness?

Living Equality is the approach Somer Housing Group is taking to make sure we are achieving fairness for all – our residents, our staff and everyone who is linked to us. ‘Route to Fairness’ is our guide for both residents and staff  that helps us to work towards our aim.

Why are we doing this?

We want to provide opportunities, continue to improve people’s lives, and work to create a fairer society where people feel valued and involved. We want to do this because it benefits our local communities, our residents, our staff and our overall business.

How are we doing this?

We are doing this by:

  • Embedding equality and fairness in everything we do.
  • Involving our residents, staff, partners and communities.
  • Representing and reflecting our customers and communities.
  • Ensuring fair and equal access to our services.

So, what’s in it for me?

For you, it means that we can provide even more resident-focused services, and continue to work harder and better to meet your needs as far as possible, whilst valuing and respecting your diversity.

We need you to help us

We cannot achieve fairness for all without your help! We need you to help us if we are to really know and understand our residents, and meet your needs.

How can I get involved?

If you want to support our work on achieving fairness for all, then you can do this in various ways...

1. Tell us about the service you received, and give us any feedback, comments, complaints, compliments or suggestions.

Telling us about how satisfied you are with the service you received from us, or any other feedback about what we do and how we do it, is very important.

  • Your feedback helps us to understand what we are doing well and what we need to do to improve.
  • Your suggestions and comments mean that we can continue to find ways to improve our services for all.
  • Your compliments and complaints help us to understand the quality of our services.

We look at the information that you give so that we can monitor and make sure that we are not treating you unfairly because of your particular characteristics.

This is important to us, because we can then act on your feedback if we are able to. You can do this by contacting us by phone, email or post (see below).

2. Join in with resident activities and focus groups.

Involving residents is important to us. This entails anything from you holding us accountable for our decisions, resident focus groups discussing new ideas, and facilitating activities you have asked for.

If you would like to be more involved, let us know what is the best way for you, and we can discuss some options.

3. Share your personal characteristics with us.

Telling us your personal characteristics, such as your religion, age or disability, allows us to understand the diversity of our residents.

We ask this information for three reasons:

  • To help us monitor whether we are achieving fairness for all.
  • To help us to understand the needs of our diverse residents better.
  • To help us to develop current and future services.

Although it is completely up to you to choose whether to share this information with us or not, it is important to consider that if we know about our residents, we can respond equally and fairly to their needs.
